Your hosts and the story of our Hotel Dominic in Sölden

The roots of the Hotel Dominic in Sölden date back to the late 1960's

The history of the 4* Hotel Dominic, our hotel in Sölden, goes all the way back to 1969. The father of the present owner, Angela Riml, laid the first foundations. In the beginning the building was conceived as a small bed and breakfast inn and was called "Soldanella", which means alpine bellflower, a plant which pokes its leaves and flowers towards the sunshine after being covered in snow during the winter at 2,500 metres.

At just 17 years old Angel Riml took over the "Soldanella" and helped it to blossom.

In 1980 the late-Gothic style Dominic Restaurant was built. The restaurant, which today serves as a dining room for guests, boasts Tyrolean carpentry and carving of the highest level.
From 1982 to 2011 Angela Riml operated the legendary "Bla Bla" après ski-bar. In the early days the "Bla-Bla" was nothing more than an outdoor shack. In 1987 a giant screen was stretched above it and in 1991 the glasshouse was added. There were crazy, noisy parties, flirting and all sorts of innovative celebrations taking place into the early hours at the "Bla Bla".

The path to the 4-star hotel in Sölden

In the year 2000 new plans were made - and they involved a huge challenge. An underground car park on two levels together with a car lift was planned. And that in the high mountains where the water table extends to the Ötztal river, and with little available space … The car lift at the Hotel Dominic in Sölden, going 16 metres below ground, is the deepest structure in Sölden.

Then, in 2001, the mother of two set about renovating, extending and reconstructing - the Hotel Dominic came into being with a small spa area, sauna, steam bath, infrared cabin, whirlpool and solarium.

2007 saw the addition of two minimalist suites with lots of glass, large south-facing terrace providing views of the mountains, maple hardwood floors and Austrian organic furniture made of beech and containing no metal.

The preliminary finale was in 2011 with the construction of the south-facing designer penthouse suite on the fifth floor, the renovation of the reception areas complete with built in aquarium. Unfortunately we had to make a split from our après ski bar, the "Bla Bla". Instead, on the same spot you will find a fashion store called "Boardriders"

Today the hotel is recognised with four stars and is still run by Angela Riml together with her daughter Caroline. 13 employees ensure excellent service and warm hospitality at the Hotel Dominic in Sölden.
